Backflow prevention

I searched and read a few responses but none actually answered my question...

I want to buy a hose specific for flushing out my black tanks. I read about attachments that prevent backflow. And yes, preventing it is a good thing.

Is the attachment nothing more than the valve that shuts water off? Or is it a special valve that has some sort of diaphragm that prevents water from backflowing even while open?

We’re going to Lowe’s this weekend.

If you have a black tank flush port than you already have a back flow valve installed in your coach. It prevents any of YOUR JUNK from siphoning back into your connected water supply.

Back-flow prevention is for real. There are many types. Both Fresh water and sewerage. My house has back flow prevention on the incoming waterline per the building code so I cannot siphon anything into the city water supply.

My seasonal site campground had to install then on every site this past summer. They prevent the reverse flow of water.

You can get 1/2” and larger check valves at Lowe’s plumbing dept. You can buy hose barbs or other connectors for the hook-up. Be aware the check valve has an orientation for flow and right side up. I re-plumbed mine and added a small ball valve just behind it to shut off flow. Hope this helps.

Always use a separate water hose for the black tank. I have a ball type valve where I hook my black water hose to flush the tank. All my black side stuff goes in one compartment and stays there and is never used for anything else, not even washing the RV. All the fresh water side hoses ( different color) go in a 5 gallon bucket and are stored in another compartment. Buy a pressure reducing valve for the fresh water connection. Most RV water leaks are from excessive water pressure at camp sites.

The campground we use regularly installed these on the potable water faucets but they leaked soooo bad they had to remove them.

I bought two hoses. A 25’ and a 10’. I plan to put a pressure regulator a back flow prevent or and a ball valve between the 2. The 10’ will be the flushing hose and the 25’ should be protected enough to be used for regular washing etc... I have a 100’ white hose for water.

Need to get a couple of 5 gallon pails to store everything in.

I think a separate hose is overkill. I use a shut off valve that I screw into the end of the water hose. When done flushing I turn off the valve, unscrew it from the flush connection, open it back up and flush with fresh water and then disconnect the shut off valve from the hose. This seems safe to me.
