Awning rail coming off

I have a 2016 Miramar and I recently discovered the mounting rail that holds the awning and the roof material in place, is coming loose at one end. I removed the tiny screws that hold the rail in place and found they have just pulled out.

Has anyone experienced this and how did you resolve it...longer screws, bigger screws? The picture shows what I'm talking about...I partially removed the trim to see what was behind it. I also included a photo of one of the tiny screws that hold the trim (and awning) in place. Sorry I can't figure out how to properly rotate the image.

Hard to tell from the pic but I don't think that holds the awning. It looks like the trim that holds the roofing material on The awning is screwed on below that trim piece. If its what I think it is just get some screws and reattach. Then maybe adds some dicor above to seal it

Maybe get some more pics from above looking down.

Consider filling in the hole that the screw came out of in order to give the new screw something to bite into. Depending on the size of the hole, I use pieces of either toothpicks or wooden match sticks liberally coated with Gorilla Glue. Give them time to fully dry, then trim them off flush with the surface. Drive the new screw in, then remove it. For added insurance, coat the threads of the new screw with glue before driving it in again.

You are correct about it holding down the roofing material but it also has the track for the awning. I left the awning out one day while away and when I came back it had retracted. I think it lifted up so high it popped the screws but I can't tell if they pulled out or broke off. I may have to do more exploring.

I fixed the loose awning rail. The screws actually rusted and broke off so I was unable to use the same hole. I drilled new holes and used slightly larger stainless steel screws and applied marine screw adhesive. I filled the old holes with rubberized caulk, reinstalled the plastic cover and caulked the seam.

Problem solved.

I'm all about filling the screw holes with epoxy, letting it dry, and then putting the screws back in: also coated with a little bit more epoxy...

In case you're interested, my awning is a lateral arm awning which allows a lot of upward movement, theoretically without damage. Evidently, a gust of wind must of lifted it so high that it caused the screws to either pull out or break.

I suspect this has been going on for long enough to allow the caulking to fail along the top of the rail, causing the screws to rust.

I have, on more than one occasion, left the awning out only to find it retracted when I returned.

Lesson learned.
