Carefree awning cracking hinges

Hello all and Happy New Year!

I want to know if anyone else has had an issue with their Carefree awning hinge "elbows" fatigue and cracking. This is the second time I am replacing cracked hinges between both arms. I did purchase and extended warranty with the coach, but seems like this 'new' awning design should be more durable than this. My dealer said they haven't had any of their other customers have issues with the hinge points.

I do take fault to the first time they broke when it was left out and a gust of wind broke them before it could automatically retract it in time to keep it from being damaged.

Thanks for any information.

PG

There were a couple of awning recalls within the past 2 years. You might want to talk to CareFree and see if your awning was under one of those recalls.

Has anyone done this themselves? I just noticed mine are cracked. I have contacted carefree and I am waiting to hear back.

Ours made lots of popping and creaking noises when going out or in, but I do not recall any visible cracks. Dealer lubed and tightened all the hinge points, quieted it down for a short period of time, then same noises again. It did continue to work ok, at least for as long as we had it.
