Electric brakes

Can I ask, I have just bought a tow dolly for my car, it has electric brakes my 29.3 ace has the wiring but I dont see a brake controller in the cab. Do I need to buy a controller or is it automatically done. I have the controller in my truck not sure how it's done in the rv. And my manual says nothing.

You will need an electric brake controller inside the motor home to control the brakes on the tow dolly.

I am looking at an Acme Car Dolly to tow my car on trips. It comes with "surge" disc brake system. No controller needed in that case.

There is now a wireless brake controller which plugs into your 7pin and uses an app to do adjustments.
I'd suggest this long before I'd suggest a standard controller install.
And
It moves easily from vehicle to vehicle.

But:
If you don't like the app tying up your phone, you can dedicate almost any $10 yard sale android or Apple to be a dedicated screen and put it where you'd have put the dash control.

You can also use an Intelli-hitch to control the braking system.
It sort of makes the brakes function like surge brakes: only smarter!

What's an intelli hitch? I bought the dooly last minute because my wife wants a car when we arrive. I got the dolly yesterday and we leave on tuesday for st Augustine. Is it something I can get and fit tomorrow?

If I buy the wireless controller is it as easy as plug and go. I left all of this very late. My wife suddenly decided she wanted her car when we go on this trip.

Literally and actually, plug and go.
Plug it in right at the rv store parking lot, it's working in seconds.
Itngoes in your 7 pin, the trailer goes in it... It's a dongle.
Look it up, download the app tonight and see what it does.

Yes you can. It plugs into your receiver: just like a "normal" hitch.

I have a Curt wireless controller. FYI you don't need the phone to operate the controller. You use it to setup the profile or select from profiles if you have more than one. But to use it just plug and go, it doesn't need continuous connection to your phone to operate once it's setup.

Does that work on flat towing also?

I don't see why not. It sends the same signals that a cab mounted controller sends.

The brake controller worked great. The towing I thought was underpowered for what I was towing. I was towing a ford explorer. So after all that I'm going to sell my dolly as I'm not in a position to buy a smaller car to tow. Worth a try
