2017 Honda CR--V EX AWD

Would anyone know if I would be able to flat tow (all 4 wheels down) a 2017 Honda CR-V EX AWD? Thanks in advance Bob. I would be towing it behind a 2017 Thor Hurricane 31S.

Googled it...

Yes NO

MOD Edit: The information is for pre-2015 CRVs, not for the 2017 in the OP's question.

Pay no attention to that posted link - it DOES NOT APPLY to your CRV. That is for pre-2015 CRVs.

If you look at page 443 of your Owners Manual you will see:

Thank you both. I will check my owners manual. I have a feeling that I can't flat tow the 2017 Honda CR-V

YOU CAN'T

2015 and newer CRV's haven't been towable.
etrailer doesn't offer a baseplate.

Here's a link. Check the #2 most popular.

A link to Blue Ox, for PRE 2015 base plates.

That is correct - you cannot. If it was mine and I wanted to bring a car on my travels I’d sell it and buy something I could flat tow. Lots of folks like trailers or dollies but think carefully before deciding it’s your best or only choice. IMO.

It looks like my wife will be purchasing the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4. Thank you for reply Pete'sMH.

One reason my wife traded in her 2015 CRV for the Colorado pickup.

Classy ride! Congratulations. Since I seem to be offering a good bit of unsolicited opinion today......If I wanted to tow such a nice vehicle I’d look into something like Protect-a-Tow to minimize the stone chips. Being towed can be hard on a car’s finish. Enjoy your travels.

Towability is why we still have a 2011 CR-V sitting in the driveway.

Protect-a-tow is a must.

Been towing for years. Never had one and no chips. Some items like flaps are proven to cause more damage if not properly installed.

As the same, I have a 2013 that I need to get the base plate on this year. The reason why is that Honda changed to a CVT transmissions as they have on several models over the years.
That Jeep is a nice ride!

Good choice. Been towing a 2019 WK2 (Trailhawk) for a couple years.

Couple of points, 2020 and later require the battery to be disconnected when towing and if it has the adaptive suspension it must be set to normal before towing. Also, make sure you have the towing capacity. My 2019 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is well over 5,000 pounds empty (approx 5,250).

No to 2015+ CRV

As mentioned, the 2015 and newer CRV are no longer Flat tow capable since they changed to a CVT transmission.

That is the exact reason I bought a barely used 2013 when I first got my RV.

then because the CRV just sat in my garage all year except when I took the RV for a trip, I sold it and bought a jeep.

I bought a wrangler, and LOVE it with the RV.

The best part is that Mopar offers a flat tow harness that means you not not have to deal with any diodes or modifying any wiring on the jeep to have brake lights & turn signals when towing it.

Cheers & good luck.

Be careful. Not all Grand Cherokee 4x4's are flat towable. Some have a QuadraTrac I drive system that is basically AWD and not really 4x4. You will have to get one with the QuadraTrac II drive system if you want to tow it.

Installing Tow Bar, Etc.

Good morning, we just purchased a 2014 Honda CRV to flat tow behind our Freedom Elite. We are looking at a Roadmaster towing system, non-binding with all the braking and lighting. Just ball parking, we were estimated close to $4,500 to install. Does this sound reasonable?

Thanks,

John

Seems excessive to me

That seems really high to me.

I Highly recommend the Aluminum complete kit from nsatowbars.com

It gives you my favorite tow bar & braking setup, the Gen 2 Readybrute elite, and everything else you need. (baseplate, wiring, etc...)

All for $1800

Install is not difficult at all at home in the garage.

If you have someone else install, should still be well under $1000.

I have been using the first Gen Readybrute elite for 7 years, and MANY miles. Only maintenance is greasing the arms under the boots every 3-ish years.

Cheers
