Anybody flat towed the 2020 Ford Escape Titanium Hybrid AWD?
We have conflicting info about the ability to flat tow the 2020 Escape Titanium Hybrid AWD automatic. Has anyone done it or seen it done?

The question really shouldn’t be “has it been done” so much as “is it approved by Ford”. The correct information will be in the owners manual called recreational towing. I would not trust a salesperson and I certainly wouldn’t do it without evidence of the appropriate procedure.

According to Ford's own towing guide (PDF, page 13) the 2020 Escape Hybrid and Hybrid PHEV are both flat towable (no mention about AWD or not).

This info is too important to not be taken directly from the horse's mouth.
Call Ford, and see what they can tell you about it.
BTW: we've got the titanium model, and love it!
(But it's not our Toad...)

Yes, only if you have he HF-45 transmission. This is from the Ford owners manual
Recreational Towing
Note: Put your climate control system in recirculated air mode to prevent exhaust fumes from entering your vehicle. See Climate Control.
Follow these guidelines if you have a need for recreational (RV) towing. An example of recreational towing would be towing your vehicle behind a motorhome. These guidelines are designed to ensure that your transmission is not damaged.
You can tow your vehicle with all four wheels on the ground using the Neutral Tow mode in the information display. Alternatively, if you have a front-wheel drive vehicle, you can tow with the front wheels off the ground by using a tow dolly. If you have an all-wheel drive vehicle, you can tow with all four wheels off the ground using a vehicle transport trailer. If you are using a tow dolly or a vehicle transport trailer, follow the instruction specified by the equipment provider.
If you tow your vehicle with all four wheels on the ground: - Tow only in the forward direction.
- Release the parking brake.
- Place your vehicle in Neutral Tow mode with the following steps:Switch your vehicle on in accessory mode.Press the menu button on the controls on the steering wheel.Select Settings.Select Neutral Tow.Follow the instructions on the information display.Fully press the brake pedal.Shift into neutral (N).Switch the ignition off.
- Do not exceed 70 mph (113 km/h).

It looks as if the alll-wheel drive models will need a trailer...
(not unexpected...)

It's not stated very clearly, but it looks like both FWD and AWD can be flat towed; and FWD can be dolly towed, and AWD can be trailer towed but not dolly towed. And as beau stated, ONLY if it has the HF-45 transmission.
I would get clarification from Ford in writing.

Lol Bob! We feel the same way. We have been reading all the manuals and a "clarification" from Ford and we are just as unsure as we started out. That is why we asked if Anyone has actually done it. The car we were/are considering (a AWD) has the HF45.But we could not find the neutral tow mode when we looked for it in the menu setting. Thank you for your help!!

Thank you!! The Escape we are looking at is the HF45. Our sales rep called Ford to check this all out and they said we could only flat tow a FWD!?!?. Which seems to conflict with the manual. So We will call Ford tomorrow.

I'll add this tidbit: Don't rule out a FWD Escape. We've had two now since they are dolly towable and they perform admirably (even in Michigan winters).
You'll get a little better mpg out of them too.

I don't think I ever took the entire "assembly" to the scales. The RV when scaled is 11.5k lbs. Looking up that Escape's weight ~3600 lbs so around 15k going down the road. (Well below the E-350's 18.5k GCWR.)
Note that the Escape is the lightest vehicle we've pulled behind the Axis (The C-Max Energi was the heaviest vehicle we've pulled at 3900lbs--yup even beats the Bolt's weight).

We had a 2015 Honda CRV Touring AWD. According to Honda it was not recommended to flat tow or tow using a car tow dolly. We ended up trading in the CRV for a 2018 Ford Escape SEL FWD vehicle. Used Carvana for first time. We also bought a Master Tow 80HD car tow dolly. This combination works fine. It can a bit confusing researching tow vehicles.
