I assume you mean you don't really want a Brake Controller.... which is mounted in the coach and typically controls electric brakes on a trailer, etc.

I have a Jeep Wrangler and use the RVi Brake3. After installing the Emergency Break-Away Switch (which you can do yourself), it takes less than 5 minutes to install and uninstall the actually unit.

I like the portability in case I change my toad at some point and no complicated or expensive permanent braking system that will stay with the toad when I sell it.

What you need is a Towed vehicle Brake System/Controller which resides in the towed vehicle, not a Trailer Brake controller which resides in the towing vehicle.

The BrakeBuddy Stealth supplemental braking system comes with a cab mounted brake controller (which can control trailer brakes as well).

We tow a 2019 Jeep Cherokee and we opted for the Roadmaster Invisibrake, a permanently installed system. I liked the simplicity. just plug in the car and go. Now if I had more than one option to use as a toad I would opt for the Blue Ox Patriot System like my brother uses or the RVi system the Judge has.
Not too many bad choices for a brake system use, more just personal preference.
What year is your Cherokee? If it is older than 2019 model year it will require an aftermarket flat tow wiring harness to keep the electric assisted power steering energized. Without the harness the Cherokee can develope Death Wobble going over RR tracks or ruts in the road.

Thanks. With Road master how does it know to activate the breaks. Do you need a brake controller inside the Rv?, or does it pick up the braking from the RV plug?

Thank you

Portable breaking systems like the RVi Brake 3 measure braking forces and then engage automatically. There are a couple settings you can figure based on size and weight of the vehicle. These require no brake controller.

Ready brute elite. It's the tow bar and brake all in one system. Simple to use. I've got over 30000 miles on mine

They all use inertia sensing systems, even the trailer brake controllers now-a-days.
