And jeep's are just cool.
Another reason for towing is safety. If the my were to break down we have the jeep to get help, parts, etc
We do lots of city exploring when camping so we need our jeep
I went with road master base plate, ready brute elite tow bar/brake system and Hopkins light wiring. Did the install myself

And your Jeep is color coordinated with the RV! I’d love to have a Wrangler but darn they are expensive! Last one I looked at was $21,000 for a 2011 model. My 2014 Focus was 1/3 the cost with half the miles. Safe and happy travels.

Same coach, different toad. A 2011 Lincoln MKX, it weighs a ton more than our Miata. Our current travels require a back seat and gravel road capability. Something tells me that I'll be regretting this choice when we get to serious mountains, but so what if it takes a little longer to climb the hills?
Using the same Blue Ox arms and Protect-A-Tow, Blue Ox baseplate and US Gear brake system (no longer sold).

Ours - 2013 Nissan Xterra, 6-speed manual. Demco baseplate and their Commander tow bar. Pulls really well.

That is a great looking rig. We went from a 90 jeep to the Ford Focus to the Cadillac SRX. Have only taken 3 trips total 4K miles with Cadillac and so far not much difference. I did add the rubber mud flap along the back and that has made a huge difference in debris getting on toad

You won't regret it. The V-10 has plenty of power for this. Your MKX weighs about as much as our C-Max did + the tow dolly. Had no issues with it. (Also similar weight to dolly + either of the other cars we've or will be towing.)

Is Protect-a-Tow around anymore?
Is Protect-a-Tow still in business? I tried to get to their website and it is down. I also tried to call their 888 number that I had on a document and the number goes to intercept.
Thanks, John

2014 4-door Wrangler Rubicon w/ Demco II towbar and ReadyBrake. We also installed the Hopkins towed wiring kit for plug and go lights. It's a flat-four plug and highly recommended over the magnetic light setup. Install time on the ReadyBrake was 2 hours; 1 hour for the Hopkins kit.

A Jeep with auto transmission and 4 wheel drive can be towed flat if transfer can be placed in neutral

Yup!
You'll still have the axles and driveshafts spinning; but nothing gets past the transfer case.
Or....
Get an older Jeep, and find some Warn lock-out hubs for it. Put them at all four corners, and nothing but the wheels will be spinning!

When we decided to change to a tow car from motorcycles, this year, I was assigned to job of finding a Jeep at a reasonable price. Long story short, we found our 2000 Wrangler Sport in N M...big plus...no rust ! Reasonable mileage, taken care of, even though used off road...$5500...it had a Bikini top ...we bought a soft top...and found a hardtop for winter (used) ...and had it setup to tow...we will need new tires next summer and may take off the lift kit....
With all that said....my point being....we didn't need another car...so we went with the older Wrangler and didn't break the bank doing so.
