Just sold my 2011 CR-V to Carvana and picked up a 2021 Kia Soul with a manual transmission. Used cars are at a premium this summer so we decided to refresh the dinghy. I will be using another Blue Ox baseplate.

Here is our new set-up. 2018 Thor Gemini 24TF pulling a 2015 Ford C-Max Hybrid. BlueOx tow plates & tow bar with Demco Stay-In-Play braking system.

Looking forward to many days on the road. BC, AB, SK this summer and hopefully south to AZ this fall.

Car in tow, what's yours?

Was a Blackjeepjk but switched to a gladiator in 2020. Decided to mod the gladiator and still use it for toad.

Our toad is a Chevy Silverado crew cab 4X4.
Its my daily driver and never understood why someone would want the smallest possible vehicle to drive around in.
Ours also is a great trailer when behind the coach.

I have been towing a 2004 Scion XB with manual transmission for 3 years. I has been outfitted with plate and parts for Blue Ox towing. No problems with transmission set to neutral, ACC activated so front wheels can turn and battery disconnected.

However I did just buy a 2021 Jeep Gladiator with auto trans.. Dealer and manual both stated that as long as transfer case is in neutral it can be safely towed.

Should be fine. I have been using same set up for a 2004 Scion XB for over 3 years. No problem as long as you disconnect battery and keep it in ACC with emergency brake off so the front wheels can turn.

We thought about buying a little car but stuck with our Escalade. We have two large dogs and do take grandkids with us often. Plenty of room to toss in lite but bulky items so don’t need to spend time trying to put everything in the basement. When we get second car it will be small and we will take which ever one fits the trip.

2011 Jeep Compass

Our Towed is a 2011 Jeep Compass, 5 speed manual.
Tows really well, but it is over 4000 pounds, so for a small vehicle, it's not light.
Because of its weight I use a supplimentel braking system, Brake Buddy. Can really tell the difference until you are in mountains, then you feel better ha ing the BB. I went through a set of brakes on my rig in 2 years driving through mountains without having the BB, cost me $5000 for the brakes. So glad I ha e the BB now.
The Jeep is a bit under powered but it is 4 wheel drive that you can select on the go.
Its good for on and off road, but not great for either. However, it's a good compromise between terrains.
We haven't done a lot of off roading to really warrant the need for a jeep, so I wouldn't mind towing a Mini or the Miada instead

Do not have jake brakes? Out here in the west we have to have the sup braking on towed regardless of weight. With 5-6 miles of 6-7% grades both really help.

No, it's a gas powered rig so no engine brake but it hasal a transmission brake, not as effective as an engine brake but helps
