We actually tow this one quite a bit as well, but not flat.
Not about to put a tow bar on this thing..

Whirnot: What does that weigh? Probably a lot less than a modern day car.

Finally have a good photo of our 2nd roadster tow car. The one we replaced had some serious damage from two incidents on a trip last summer. It won't go everywhere a Jeep will, and only seats two, but it gives us more smiles per mile!

It weighs about 2155, so about 600 pounds less than the Jeep.

We just bought a 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback. The dealer said we will have to tow it by a tow dolly. Question.... Is there a advantage to the different types of towing a car? Flat vs, dolly vs full trailer?

One advantage is, on a trailer you can back it up. Towing flat is more difficult. The one time I tried to back up with a dolly it immediately got out of sorts.

Just bought a 2002 Dodge Dakota 4X4 crew cab from a friends dad. Just over 21,000 miles on it. Having the TowMaster StowMaster installed today & tomorrow. Perfect setup, me thinks! Have towed an S10 and Suzuki Grand Vitara previously.

Flat towing: - Very easy to hookup--can be done by a single person
- More expensive to setup
- Cannot backup
- Only adds 50lbs (if that) to the towing setup
Dolly towing: - Less expensive than Flat towing
- Longer hookup time (have to strap wheels to the dolly usually about 15-20 minutes)--easier with 2 people
- Typically FWD only cars (unless your RWD vehicle has a driveshaft disconnect)
- Cannot backup
- Adds 600-800 lbs to the towing setup
Trailer towing: - Most expensive option
- Any car (within weight limits)
- Can backup
- Easy to load
- Can add more than 1000 lbs to towing setup (use an aluminum trailer, but that also costs more)

Just a head up, check the front ball joints (upper ones were recalled).
I have the same truck (bought brand new) with 115000 miles and have replaced them three times.
I love my Dakota its heavy to tow around 4500lb without a cap but easy set up and nice to put stuff in the back
also you might not want to run the key in acc to unlock the steering wheel.
I take it one more klick and added a battery disconnect.(I learned a lesson when I took a turn and bump and the key jumped out of acc and locked the steering wheel, only drug the front wheels turned for 50' before pulling over)
I towed it every so often now since I have a 2014 crv.

Great thread with lots of input. Our Hurricane 31S gets delivered 3rd week of June and we plan to use an ACME dolly so we can use either my 2016 Golf GTI or the wife's 2017 FWD Hyundai Tucson. This way I can get to track events with my GTI and not have to stay in hotels. If there is anyone out there who tows either of these vehicles I would be like to hear their comments. Thanks

Thank you for the reply and picture. Did you compare the Stehl dolly vs. the ACME dolly and if so why did you chose the Stehl?

I did not compare in person, and only have limited experience with the Stehl. I do prefer the swivel deck design of the Stehl/Master Tow and others, just from a standpoint of the fundamental movements involved.
Any change in alignment of the dolly for/aft axis relative to the car for/aft axis will result in the dolly wheels pivoting forward on one side and aft on the other side. Simply allowing the car steer wheels to turn left or right will not account for the for/aft shift required.
Play around with a kids Radio Flyer wagon, similar principle.

2014 Fiat 500L Manual, Still kept our 2015 Focus but picked this up for a price I couldn't pass up. Has more room than the Focus for when we travel and wife's parents come along with there 5th wheel. They don't fit in the Focus and otherwise I end up driving his truck, which I don't like driving.

The nice thing about 4 down towing is when you get to the campground you don't have any extra dollies or trailers to find room for

Here's mine. Lifted JK HardRock on 35's. Trip to Galveston Island, made for shortwork helping out a couple of 2x Chevy's, then a sunset photo op.
Tows nice and is well mannered behind the 29m
