Well said, FW28z. Beware when RV and car salespersons say, "Sure, I think you can tow that car with no problems!" Always do your homework.

Motorhome magazine has an annual dinghy guide. Here's the site with previous data, up to 2015: Downloadable Dinghy Guides | MotorHome Magazine

Super Fun

Anyone have any experience with something like this as a toad? Super light weight like a motorcycle, super fun, economical, covered trailer tow.

Fun, just not too practical. That little red thing would be great for beach driving, maybe in town, but it would be scary with the big boys on the road.
We have a friend that towed a SmartCar. With those I'm thinking, OK room for two people, but not two people plus groceries!

2006 Saturn VUE, AWD, behind our Thor Tuscany 40KQ. Blue Ox tow plate and tow bar. Brake Buddy Classic. Good thing I have a camera in the back, otherwise I wouldn't know it was back there. Great toad!

2015 Four Winds 28Z towing a 2015 Soul (Alien Green) on a Amce dolly. Just completed a 3000 mile plus trip with no issues at all. Great combination. Dolly and Soul's about 3000 lbs, until someone who shall seek nameless loaded all of her winter clothes onto the clothes bar and rear storage area. It gets cold in Illinois in January, don't you know?
All in all a great setup.

One and All.

After working with Kia, getting a copy of the Kia Technical Service Bulletin TSB #18, dated September 2007 (Rev 3, 01/14/2015), subject: Recreational Towing Requirements we just picked up our 2016 Kia Soul Manual transmission yesterday.

This will become our Toad down the road. We are researching the modifications needed and trying to get a handle on the costs of what all is needed. Input as to what is needed, preferences and ballpark figures greatly appreciated.

Choice between Blue Ox and Roadmaster - both can work with this..
Shop around for prices... and decide whether you want to install or have it done... (The base plate and a permanent brake system can be some work depending on car/choice...)
Basics are (with links to show some choices):
Base Plate: https://www.etrailer.com/towbar-2016_Kia_Soul.htm
Tow Bar: https://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Tow...unt_Style.aspx (I have the Falcon All Terrain)
Brakes and Light Kits: https://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Tow...g_Systems.aspx (I have the Invisibrake - permanent install)
Drop Hitch: (just a guess that the Kia will be much lower than motorhome... want a MAX of 3" rise/drop in towbar) https://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Acc...h_Adapter.aspx

Misc: Safety chains/cables, locking hitch pin, locks (to replace spring clips if desired)

The obvious answer is to add brakes...
Why add the stress of stopping an approx 2800lb (google curb weight) plus whatever is in it as it tries to run into the back of your motor home as you slow from 60+mph...
(a quick search I don't see a NY law for it - but the ticket is yours if I'm wrong... NJ does require them if you are making your way down I-95.)

Update: Still winter (but looking at the weather I may be removing the cover next weekend...fingers crossed LOL)
Why am I posting here? Doing my due diligence I had the C-Max weighed to make sure it weighs what Ford says it weighs (something like 3850 according to their website):

Well look at that, within 50 lbs (this is without me in it--I have to get out to be able to jump up and hit the intercom button at the Cat scale! LOL).
That plus the dolly weight is still well under the 5000 lb limit on our Axis.

Looking to tow a 2007 Honda CR V . Any ideas on the cost for installation of a Blue Ox base plate and light wiring? We have a 2015 Chateau 28F and want to be gone for awhile. We also have toad a motorcycle trailer but that does not work in the winter!
