Colorado Toad
I tow a 2018 ZR2 Colorado. It tows great. I installed a BlueOx baseplate and use the BlueOx Acclaim tow bar. Since the ZR2 sits a bit higher than the other models and the Palazzo tow hitch sits very low to the ground, I did need to get a riser for the hitch (needed a 10”) to keep the tow bar level.

Towing a Colorado

Just make sure that you don't get one with a bad Transmission - We had one for 3 years and they have yet to correct the problem.
Ford also makes a midsize Ranger and it appears to be in very good health.

Thanks Tinman
Can you take a picture of the front of the truck? How high are the attach points off the ground?
I usually need a drop for my 31W hitch and I'm hoping to use a dual mount so I can move the bike rack to the motorhome rather than the toad.
Thanks,
Pete

We use a Roadmaster Falcon All-terrain tow bar, a Roadmaster Automatic Battety Disconnect and a Demco Stay-in-play DUO braking system.
My procedure is tailored to using these components. If anyone is interested in my procedure I would be willing to share it.

I love my 2016 Colorado 4x4 as a 4-down toad. Very easy to hook up.

2 questions I have are where do you get the fake accessory key? And I use a blue ox brake system and need vehicle battery power for it. Does your brake system use power from the Motorhome or the vehicle?
Thanks!

I went to a local locksmith and had him cut a blank key to match the original one. I didn’t get one with a chip in it (cost reasons) because all I needed it for was to unlock the driver’s door and allow the steering column to unlock. An added benefit is that if someone were to get their hands on it, they couldn’t start the vehicle.
My brake system operates off of the Canyon battery. To prevent running the battery down I have an RVI towed batter charger installed that runs off of the Motorhome 12v pin on the umbilical chord.

Question about storage
Hello guys,
We are wondering what you do with the towing equipment that hooks to the RV after you are at your destination. Do you remove it from the RV and store it or just leave it. We will have our towing equipment installed next week and just wondering.

It depends on your equipment and how lazy you feel.
Some tow bars stay attached to the RV and swing up or sideways out of the way.
The hooks on the front of the toad can stay or if you fear them walking away you can pull them and either put them in the trunk or one of the RV storage compartments.
My tow bar is a simple Reese A-Frame bar that I have built a shelf for in one of my storage compartments. The shelf also has locations for the toad hooks and the safety cables and wiring harness.

Our towbar folds up out of the way when not in use. We have a cover for it.
(sorry about the upside down photo. I tried posting it right side up and the upside down an it still shows up wrong )
The pin attaching the towbar to the hitch receiver has a lock on it. The safety cables, electrical umbilical harness and the removable tow receptacles that attach to the base plates on the truck are all stowed in a dedicated box in one of the rear storage compartments.
When towing, the towbar cover is placed in that box.

I have a Blue-Ox that stays on the Rv. It folds down and I have a cover for it.

Do you have to reset the radio and clock every time because you have to disconnect?

No, radio hasn't changed. It does tell me to lower and raise the driver's side window to activate the dash information.

I don't disconnect-have a charge wire thru the wiring harness. If I am going to be stopped for several hours, I turn the ignition off in my Canyon.

The reason for disconnecting the battery is for the electronic steering assist system. Not removing power from the system has it fighting the turns initiated by the MH.

I use a Brake Buddy that needs power from my Canyon. Turning my key on to the first click powers my brake system, unlocks steering column, and doesn't record mileage.
