Colorado Chevy for towing

Looking to update our toad later this year. I'm interested in the Colorado 4x4. I understand that there may be some of these that aren't towable. Anyone have information on this?

The Colorado and GMC Canyon are towable if they have the following drive controls on the dash:

2H
AUTO
4H
4L
N

The knob looks like this and the "N" or Neutral setting for the transfer case is easy to miss. There is a procedure to go through to put the transfer case in Neutral so the "N" lights up on the knob for towing.

some of the Jeep Cherokees are the same way - if you have a Jeep Latitude, for example, and it doesn't have the 'Active DriveII' transmission system, which includes a 'Neutral' button, it is NOT 4-down towable, EVEN if it is a 4 wheel drive car - ask me, I know, now, well, way back in 2014 I mean!
(then I found the Ford Focus and Fiesta models and haven't looked back since)... just put it in Neutral and tow.

What are you currently towing? The Colorado may not be an "upgrade".

We upgraded from a Jeep Liberty to a GMC Canyon. Very pleased. Hookup procedure is a little more complicated but I wrote up the procedure step by step to make it easier.

I bought a 2019 GMC Canyon 4x4 for the specific purpose of being able to 4-down towing capabilities last year. I plan on towing it behind my 2020 Thor Magnitude SV34. I did a lot of research to make sure it could be towed b4 buying and I can tell you that after driving it for a year , you are going to love this pickup. I just recently took delivery of my Magnitude so am researching best towing set ups.

What tow bar/face plate setup did you go with? Is your procedure viewable to others? Thanks!

Before you buy it, verify in the owners manual that it can be flat towed. Don't believe what a sales man says.
The FMCA towing guide is a great resource too.

Our 2017 Chev Colorado crew cab 4X4 has been a awesome toad and best of all it's a Turbo Diesel! We replaced our Honda CRV with it several years ago and it tows like a charm! Never thought I'd ever buy another Chev product, but this truck is fantastic. It drives great on the high way, 25-31 mpg and yet in 4X4 with stock truck tires it easily handles moderate jeep trails in the Owens Valley.

I tow mine all the time. As mentioned its a convoluted process of putting the vehicle in neutral, turning the 4 wheel knob to the right for 10 seconds until the red light comes on and then disconnecting the battery. I had a battery disconnect knob installed on my battery to make it easier. That said, I still pull out the owners manual every time I hook up.

Been towing my 2016 Colorado since I bought it new. No issues. Copied procedure from manual and keep in the glove box. Takes about 10 minutes to hook up. 2016 4x4.

What baseplate are you Colorado owners using?

That's exactly what I was going to recommend!
Odds are most salesmen don't/won't have a clue, or care, as long as you buy.
Had a fellow workkamper a couple years ago bought a new Colorado, salesman said no problem 4 down towing, Camping World installed tow bar & never said anything to the contrary, he towed about 50 miles before smoke boiling out from the transmission. CW said "you didn't ask it if could be towed" while dealer swore he never ask, but in the end the dealer got him a replacement that could be towed & CW replaced the tow bar free.

I am sure it is towable but everyone is correct in saying you must verify in your owners manual. My GMC Canyon is probably the same and is towable. However, I was having a lot of trouble getting the electronic transfer case to go into and out of neutral. The dealer updated the software which seems to have corrected the problem.

Tricky

I have used a 2016 Colorado since 2016 works great.
The tow mode neutral is a bit tricky but after a few times of working thru the procedure it was a snap

One-time I didn't hold it in N long enough and it ended up in 4WD mode. Was a pain until I remembered you have to go all the way back to 2WD to try again. Just be patient when you turn to N and wait for it to shift.

I'm dolly towing so I just shut off and put in park. Why do you need the battery disconnected for flat tow?
