Blue Ox Alpha or Avail?

Finally getting the goods to tow our new 2018 Jeep Sahara Unlimited 4 door and can't really decide whether I should spend the extra $100 for the Blue Ox Avail vs just getting the Blue Ox Alpha? Have the Blue Ox base plate coming and the RVIBrake3 and a Light Wiring kit and a Tow Vehicle battery charger. Think I am pretty set but just need to pull the string on getting the right Tow Bar. Any advice or experience would be appreciated!

or even the new all aluminum light-weight ASCENT, up to 7,500lbs...

Yeah I looked at those - steel seems stronger but that aircraft grade aluminum is pretty sturdy it seems. But that is even more $100 more than the Avail. But I definitely don't need 10k - or really even 7500..the 6500 of the Alpha is more than enough for the Jeep.

my Alpha is still going strong since 2014 and probably over 100,000miles of towing behind my own coach, as well as diesel and gas coaches that I've delivered from the factories to dealers all over...

I had it 'serviced' at Blue Ox in Pender, NE, back in mid 2017, on the way to Alaska - $35 to service and 'rebuild' it, and several free nights of full-service RV park on the premises... very nice!

Now, if I had several hundred dollars to burn, then yes, I'd go with the lighter ASCENT, especially since I tend to move my towbar quite often - they 'aint light!

Awesome information. My main interest in the Avail - and maybe the Ascent - is the potential that the slightly longer arms would allow for more turning? Not sure a Jeep is going to be a big challenge for that but if you had a full size truck or something. If the Alpha is plenty long enough to allow the Jeep to make turns - i may just go with that and then save up for aluminum when I get tired of lifting it!

You'll have no problem turning with any of the available tow bars. Just remember you can't back up with any of them!

We also toured the Blue Ox plant in Pender, NE, and they checked our Aventa bars. Great people, great products!
