My car is a Jeep Grand Cherokee (2012) Overland which is supposedly 4600-4850 lbs. When towing, it feels like there's a lot of extra movement back there (I used to pull this Jeep with a Bounder 36U, never even noticed it was there.)
Is this car too heavy for the motorhome?
I put a Trac bar on mine and the rear movement went away. It was quite amplified when tugging a toad. YMMV

I just placed the order for my Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar, Base Plate and SMI Duo Stay and Play breaking system. I couldn't tow my BMW X3 ..... so, I purchased a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk to tow and traded in my BMW for a Mini Cooper S convertible ( ya gotta have some fun ). As soon as the parts come in, I'll get the jeep hooked up.

I haven’t selected my tow bar yet and am curious why you chose the Alpha over the lighter weight Ascent?

It’s one of the ones I looked at , seems like a lot of alpha users here that are happy. Plus, that was recommended at hitch place I went.

Because I’m still working at 64, I only pull a toad when I plan an extended business trip

I pull a Toyota Prius on a Demco dolly
Prius weighs 2,900# + 450# dolly
So total tow weight is 3400#

I have the E450 chassis

Works great as long as I don’t get into a situation where I need to back up
So I am always thinking 2 steps ahead

Been a while since I posted that. We've towed the Escape, a C-Max, and a Bolt on the ACME dolly without issue.

We towed a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee from Tampa, FL to Alaska and back (14k miles) without any problems.

Which baseplate and tow bar do you use? I am thinking about owing a 2018 Subaru Forester manual transmission.

I noticed on other websites “tow-ready” vehicles available for sale
With all the gear installed, $1500 worth of tow gear

That may be the route I go when I’m ready to do “four-down”

But for now...a decent, used tow dolly can be had for under $1,000. So that’s what I did

Don’t know the fellow or his stuff but there is a guy selling his toad (Ford Focus) all set up and also his tow bar and brake system on the classified page. If I’d not just bought my stuff I’d be looking into it. Just sayin

Good looking set up. tommyp. We tow a 19 Cherokee Trailhawk as well behind our ACE 27.2. The DW hated loosing the front red recovery hooks! You will enjoy the Trailhawk very capable vehicle on and off road.

I had a welder attach the "Red Hooks" to an extra set of locking pins.

Spaghetti cable wars ... FWIW... I coil the safety cable around the bars and leave them that way. Fast easy hitch duties.

Roadmaster towing Assemble???

Hello, we bought this 2017 Axis 25.3 with the Roadmaster towing system in place just 8 weeks ago. How can I use it to hook up to a 2020 Hyundai Tucson? The seller sold it for her deceased father and had no idea how to use it. So it just rides attached to the back of the RUV and we haven't used it yet. It appears we have to take "things" off the Tucson to tow it.....Ideas/suggestions....

First off you will need to check the owners manual and see if the Tucson is towable 4 wheels down.
I don't see it listed in the 2020 Good Sam Dinghy Towing Guide. The Guide is a good reference point to start a search for a "toad" but it is a guide. The final say so on 4 down towable will be found in the Manufacturers owners manual.

I don't see any Hyundais in the 2020 Dinghy Towing Guide. I assume the "Roadmaster Towing System" is just the tow bar and you already owned the Hyundai and want to tow it? To flat tow any vehicle it has to be approved to be flat towed by the vehicle manufacturer and have a baseplate installed to attach to the tow bar as well as a lighting system and brake system. The tow bar is just one part of a full system.

If your existing car can’t be towed with its wheels on the ground and if you really need to bring a car your choices are to purchase a car that can be towed or use a trailer or a dolly for the car you have. If the latter you won’t use the equipment on your RV, just a normal hitch ball. If the former you’ll need to set up your new car for towing. This involves having a base plate added, lights and a braking system. All of which can cost anywhere from $1500 - $4000 depending on whether you can do some of the work yourself. Towing is pretty easy and can be very useful but it’s a serious thing and you need to find a good shop or fellow camper to assist.
