Class C 26 ft or less towing weight questions

We have a question on the hitch 8000 lb weight on the New 2020 Thor Motor Coach Quantum GR22 or any other Thor with 8000 that is under 26 ft.
Will it pull a 2019 GMC Canyon All Terrain
Flat towing
Trying to find a Class C that will fit in our driveway since the city changed codes on us. We still would like to use the GMC or the 2018 Envision

How much does the Canyon weight? Take it to a scale and find out how much it really weighs.. then you'll have some hard data.

You'll also need the coach weight--but it sounds like you don't have one yet so you'll have to use the dry weights off the Thor site, or someone with that model can chime in with their weight.

Welcome to the site.

Realize your inquiry is about a 26 ft or less Class C. But we tow a 2019 GMC Canyon Denali 4WD with our 32 ft Freedom Elite. Hitch rating is 8000 lbs and the Canyon curb weight is 4162lbs (GVWR for the Canyon is 6200 lbs). Towing is easy. Hardly know it’s back there.

Just because it has an 8000 lb hitch doesn't necessarily mean it will be able to tow 8000 lbs. You need all the numbers for both vehicles including the GCVWR for the RV.

Agreed, in our case we are within all weight parameters. Thanks for pointing out the GCVWR requirement, many may not take that into account. Weighing the combination is the best way to know what you have.

The Quantum GR22 on the Ford E350 Chassis:
Ford Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) 12,500 pounds
Ford Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) 18,500 pounds

In comparison I have a four winds 22E, specs are almost identical, the Quantum GR22 has a slide, the 22E does not.
I weigh in fully loaded including full tanks and passengers, 10,900 pounds.
Not sure what a slide adds in weighs,
even if you are at GVWR (12,500 lbs) you still have 6000 lbs available to tow, to reach GCWR of 18,500 lbs

That’s the way I’d look at it also. With Ford E-350, you should have at least the 6,000-pound tow capacity that comes from 18,500 GCWR minus 12,500 GVWR.

That’s a minimum provided motorhome is not overloaded.

Caution I’d add is that some smaller Class Cs also come on Chevy 3500 Cutaway chassis, and they have much lower GCWR so towing capacity is not as high as on Ford E-350.
