Dolly towing question

Getting ready to hit the road soon and this time taking the car on a tow dolly. My question is do I need a extra set of lights on the car or is the lights on the tow dolly good enough? We will not be doing any night driving.

The short answer is, no.

When we towed with a tow dolly we did not use lights other than those on the tow dolly.

I prefer have the lights as far back as possible, especially for night driving; so therefore I have my lights on the back of the car.

So far we haven't used any extra lights other than those on the dolly.

The more lights, the better, IMO. Legally, if the back of the car (or the load in the pickup, etc.) extends more than 6 feet from the face of the rearmost light, you need a red flag or another light. I would prefer as much warning to the sleepy driver behind me as possible. Pick up a set of those portable magnetic lights that can be tied into the dolly lights at the hitch mounting point (if your car has metal fenders/deck lid vs. plastic body parts).

I think you are required to have either the vehicle lights tied into the the coach light outputs or have auxiliary lighting. My dolly lights were low and would be very hard to see with a car on the dolly.

When we towed the Mini on a dolly we used a set of magnetic lights on the top rear. Took about 5 minutes to mount and connect the wire harness to the coach. I got a 4-pin wye connector to tap into connector to the dolly brakes and lights. I did get a sheet of thin rubber to glue to the light magnets as we got a couple of scratches with the magnets themselves.
