Drop down
We have a 2016 Hurricane 34J and just had our 2015 Fiesta set up for towing, tow bar, light and brakes. Today I hooked it up to the camper and there is a lot of difference between the car and the camper hitch. It's 22 inches to the center of the receiver and 14 inches to the center of the bar where the tow bar connects to the car. I am thinking to stay within the +- 3 inches of center I need an 8" drop down. It seems like a lot, but the front of the car is low to the ground. Does anyone use a drop down that low? I could probably get away with a 6" but would rather have it centered.

Doesn't look like you ever got an answer. Yes, is the answer. On mine I'm 26.5" to center of 2 1/2" receiver on the Motorhome, to 17.5 on my Jeep. My tow bar is 2" shank. So I got a drop/up hitch to give me an 8" drop in my case. Several companies make them. I made the mistake of ordering my tow bar in 2 1/2" shank, problem was they don't have a 2 1/2" drop to 2 1/2" but do have them in 2 1/2" drop to 2" so I had to have my shank changed to a 2", no harm done it works great. They also make a 10" drop. BlueOx has them among others.
I paid 120 for mine online, and at the dealer it was 237!!
If your interested take pstandiford up on his offer
Don't pay attention to my safety cables, they are just laying on the hitch for a quick picture, I have shackles I install and hook into those.

I previously used an 8" drop but new MH is lower so I only have a 3" now. Send me a PM if interested in buying the drop down for a good price.

Gentlemen,
I am in the process of picking out a vehicle to flat tow (Kia Soul - have copy of Kia TSB dated Sept 2007, revised 1/14/2015 that tells how to do it).
Once I get that done, I was wandering if you remember or have a ballpark figure and/or list of what is needed next. I understand some type of plates for the vehicle (Kia Dealer told me $2300 to modify the vehicle - sounds high), a tow bar, lights and brakes.

No, that doesn't sound high at all, including labor. I spent that much and did everything myself. What kind and size tow bar are they using, and what kind of brake system is being used?

Lights are included but not brakes. But that is not a problem as I probably will not be pursching the Kia from the dealership that gave me the conversion estimate (their price on the Kia itself was the highest offer...after 3 days of online negotiations).
So, I guess I will start from scratch and figure out what is needed then find a shop that does it.

OH, then that sounds a bit high. I'm sure you can find a better deal. You can also get everything you want and if you don't want to install it yourself have someone do it, that would be cheaper too. They (dealers) have a big markup on equipment as I found out. One of the reasons I did it all myself.
My list:
Tow Bar - Avanta BlueOx - $850
Drop Hitch - BlueOx - $120
Diode wiring and cable ends - $137
Cable from MH to towed vehicle - $65
Base Plate - BlueOx - $350
Battery maintainer - $55
Shackles (4) for Safety cable - $40
Braking removable type $900 - $1400
Permanent type $800 (what I have) but install can be as much as $600- $800
Cover for tow bar (if you leave it on the MH you need this) - $50
Four keyed alike locks for hitch - $60 (I think, I forget that one)
Brake-a-way switch if not included with brake purchase (mine was) - $?? not sure

I ended up putting the SMI - Stay-In-Play Duo System which is permanently installed. No setting up each time I hook up. I installed it myself and it cost (on Amazon) 750 with the warranty.

Glad you got it taken care of A tad high is better anyway, inertia is forward and down that way, and you don't scrafice rear end clearance as much
