I think the lightest thing you will find when you buy an aluminum trailer is your wallet …

I just scraped, paintedand re sticked ny steel open trailer. I have had 15 years now and there are no structural issues. Also replace some of the wood deck.

We considered enclosed but additional weight just was not worth it.

I did a little research and here's the weight of the two metals per CF (cubic foot):

Aluminum: 168.48 pounds
Steel (cast/rolled): 490.00 pounds

it takes twice as much aluminum to build the same trailer as steel...

If you tried to build a trailer with the same size metal as steel... it would fold up like a beer can...I'm sure you've a seen guy smash a beer can on his forehead…. slip him a corn can and see what happens

So here's what I'm finding....what you don't know won't hurt you is the census, I can look at a set up and know they are over weight, I weigh every coach I get...a 29m moderately loaded is gonna weigh in around 17k lbs... some even load them to the 18k limit..that only leaves 5k to tow...a 20' box steel trailer is gonna weigh about 3500lb , a 24'r about 4000 lbs...the guy selling them will say 3000 and 3500,, but won't prove it with a weight cert...one company did have a cert for a 20' aluminum... it was 2935 lbs...

again,... most are fine with " it tows like a dream, who cares what it weighs"

every trailer sales place I have called has said that the trailer weight is about.... none are actually weighed... there is no weight cert with the trailer...and what I have been told is that they weigh a couple when they are built....and then that's what they say they weigh...people are known to fudge a little when it comes to weight...
Some landscaping material businesses have scales and for a small fee they will weigh your rig and give you a printout. Perhaps a trailer dealer would weigh the trailer for you or let you take it to be weighed.

vegas, here's one data point that might help. Featherlight lists their aluminum 24' enclosed bumper pull trailer at 3500 lbs. My steel 24' trailer was about 4200 lbs empty. Both were dual 5200 lbs axle, 10000 lbs rated. I think this is consistent with several comments here that you won't save 50%.

We purchased an Aluma 8216Tilt Anniversary Edition to pull our 2013 Miata behind our 2018 Windsport 34J.
The trailer weighs 1425 lbs and the Miata 2600 lbs. Looks like the 34J came with the factory wiring and pigtail to do a plug and play for the brake controller.

I am curious about how effective the stone guard is on the trailer. Does it keep dust and road grime off the vehicle? Nice looking rigs.

Mr. Ed230, What are the dimensions (length and width) of your trailer.

I tried posting a reply a few weeks ago and was permanently banned due to post a link multiple times. It would not post correctly so I kept doing it. Admin finally responded and let me back on. Aluma 8216 Tilt A. It is a 82" x 16 foot bed. 1425 lbs. Was not cheap but we wanted the Miata with us.
