Finally

We finally bit the bullet and bought a toad.

2010 Kia Soul with manual (standard) transmission.

I will be ordering the baseplate, lighting kit and charge line next month with a view to installing over the winter.

I already have a Blue Ox tow bar and Patriot braking system which I bought rediculously cheap at a yard sale. We should be good to go in the spring.

Hopefully the install will go well and I won’t be back with tales of woe.

Anybody else tow a Soul?

Any hints, tips or suggestions?

Brave new world... I don't think your RV will even notice the toad. With our little coach and 4600# jeep wrangler toad, I can feel it pushing the rear when cornering.. but not terribly much it just 'assists' in turns ;-)

Just bought a 2010 Kia Soul base model with a 5 speed manual transmission last week. Everyone says it can be flat towed except the owners manual. Wish us luck. BTW, we paid $6000 for the car and Camping World quoted us $6300 for the tow setup. (Roadmaster Nighthawk, base plate, invisibrake and wiring installed. $3600 for labor. This may be a self install)

Brother-in-law flat tows a 5-speed Soul behind their class C. The only comment from him is the hamsters getting short of breath in Colorado!

Does your manual say that you have an automatic transaxle? Mine does. If so, is that a concern for towing even if it’s a manual transmission? I actually have a few days left to return it and get my money back if I can’t tow it.
The guides I have seen just say that if it’s a manual, you can flat tow it.

Question Flat tow Manual trans w/automatic Transaxle

I just bought a 2010 Kia Soul base model with a 5 speed manual transmission to flat tow. Dinghy guides from 2010 say it can be towed with no restrictions. Owners manual says it has an automatic transaxle and should only be flat towed at low speed. Does anyone out there tow a manual with an automatic transaxle? Any issues?

You have some terminology confusion:
There are automatic transmissions
There are manual transmissions
When the transmission is integrated into the drive wheels' differential it is called a transaxle.

So front wheel drive vehicles will either have an automatic transaxle or a manual transaxle. Same thing with rear engine rear wheel drive cars like Volkswagens and porsches - they have automatic or manual transaxles.

Never heard of a manual transmission with an automatic transaxle.

Historically Kia Souls can be flat towed if they are manual but cannot be flat towed if they are automatic.

Thanks. I think some of the confusion I’m having is from the manual. I’ve been looking at Honda CRV manuals which are specific to the vehicle by VIN. Kia’s manuals seem to cover all models of that year.
