First time flat tow question.

When towing my Grand Cherokee with a Magnitude XG32 I found that the rig felt like i was driving with a brisk side wind. The coach would wander a bit left and right and I had to two hand drive the whole time. I was able to maintain speed limit without issue, it just wanted to wander. It doesn't wander at all when not towing.

I am using a Roadmaster Set-up, Sterling All Terrain Bar, Roadmaster flat tow Kit on the GC, a Brake Buddy 2, and all the safety stuff, lights, cables, etc...

I have pretty grippy Kevlar Tires (trailhawk) and the tire pressure is 35psi as called for from the door sticker.

Is this just what it is, or should I be doing something different.

seems like a rather smaller coach to be pulling such a large heavy vehicle....

What year is the GC? We just pulled ours all over the country, every speed, rough roads, up/down, and even in 40mph cross-winds can't tell it's even back there.

The XG32 is a Super C with an Ford F550 Diesel, and it is 4x4. The coach isn't small. I am wondering if I am doing something wrong in my tow setup.

It is a 2017 Trailhawk, 5.7 Hemi, so a heavy front engine. I was thinking about airing up the tires, maybe they are too grippy?

I just put the transfer case in N, and the trans in P.

How do the resistance handles in the tow bar work? They seem to be in working order. I really have never flat towed before.

Figured it would be a 16/17/18...talk to a dealer about a flat tow harness kit for your rig. There's an issue with the electric steering not getting enough (if any) electrical power to keep it on and use its dampening algorithm. Some folks get a death wobble, most don't, but I think the wandering is a more prominent issue.

Is your tow bar level? Tow bar handles should both lock in place when extended, so not sure what you're asking there?

I would have the alignment checked on your toad.

Sounds like a weight distribution issue.

How so? Since both the MH and toad have the same weight distribution whether they are joined together or not.

We flat tow a 2019 hemi GC Trailhawk all Roadmaster behind a Super C and have No problems at all. Sterling tow bar as well. I also use a 2 inch high low adapter for correct angle.

Are you using a cross bar baseplate?

It's my understanding that Jeep fixed it in '19 to keep the EPS powered up

Sounds to me like the angle of the towbar may be off. Way back when, I had a toad that danced behind my coach. An oldtimer explained about the angle of the towbar and that fixed my issue.

Yep! If it's anything like our BH35, I got the biggest drop I could (6 inch) to get into the 3 inch sweet spot for the towbar. It's still a little high, but can't find a better option without replacing the entire receiver assembly.

I pull a Jeep Wrangler on a car trailer with my XG32 and don't even know it is behind me. The ford F550 has plenty of power. I have found sometimes the same problem you are having that I have to 2 hand drive to keep from feeling that swaying issue. The trailer does not sway just feel like the F550 wants to wander.

Yes, that may be what it is the XG 32 has a good 18" shorter wheel base than the other models. I did notice that my tires are all 5lbs under-inflated. That happens in the summers here where it gets 110. So everything runs great, drives great, it just wanders. I will have the two plate on my JL next week and will see what the difference is. I tow the GC for work and the JL for play. I know, sounds weird, but I am not staying in Hotels anymore.

Tell you the truth we are not staying in hotels either. Glad to know it was not just me with wandering issue. I might be a few pounds low on the air pressure also probably will try bringing the air pressure up and seeing if that fixes it

I asked the admin at this forum if they would have a thread just for the Omni/Magnitude and they seemed like they had enough threads. I would love a 4x4 coach thread. The Omni/Magnitudes are unique enough that the users could use their own thread.
