flat tow wrangler

Looking for a aftermarket bumper that is legal for flat towing. The only one I have found is from Rock Hard. 2021 Wrangler Rubicon JL.

Any reason why you don't use the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit and just use the stock bumper?

I installed this on my '18 Wrangler JL Sahara Unlimited and it works great.

I can think of a few reasons one might want aftermarket. The roadmaster isn't compatible with sway-loc dual rate anti-sway bar (at least on the jk). Winch mounting can be easier on an aftermarket bumper.. A bit more entry angle can be gained..

And some people like to make their heeps look tough..

I went with roadmaster even though it meant losing sway-loc... I have a dirt bike for serious off roading ;-)

Agreed.... especially with the winch.

The guys I see going over the top on their Jeeps usually tow them on a trailer. I was at the KOA in Silt / West Glenwood Springs, CO last week and there were three Class A's pulling trailers with their tricked-out Jeeps. Those guys were definitely serious about their Jeep mods!

flat towing a Jeep on non DOT 40" tires, 1-ton axles with no anti-sway bars is probably really interesting.. bet it'd dance like nobody is watching!

When I was doing research for my 2022 JL I found two. One from Rock Hard and one from Smittybuilt. The difference is that the Rock Hard is aluminum (35 lbs), and the Smittybuilt was steel (98+lbs). I went with the Rock Hard because I liked the look, the tow bar position. and the weight.

I just towed the Jeep cross country and back without a hiccup. I use the Blue Ox tow bar and a Patriot 3 Brake.

The Rock Hard bumper was worth the extra cost IMHO, and it lets me offroad without banging up my tow bar setup.

We ordered the Rockhard Steel Bumper for our '97 TJ, this is a very solid bumper and had the mounts added by the factory. Matched this bumper to a Ready Brake tow bar system. Impressed with the ease of the hookup (usually less than five minutes) and we are ready to rock on down the road!

5 minutes? Taking your time or is the tow bar require careful positioning?

I put an LOD Signature Full-Width bumper on my 2019 JLUR and so far it’s been great. It was exactly the right height tow behind my previous rig (2018 Miramar) and current rig (2022 Entegra Accolade) without a drop/rise receiver. I also added their skid plate, their frame tie-in for the safety cables and their blue-ox adapters for my Ascent tow bar.

If you read through their literature , they purposefully designed the bumper with flat towing in mind. They also sell the same items for the JK

When not towing/traveling, some red shackles are usually on the bumper, otherwise it looks a little bare/unfinished.

Really 5 minutes or less, love the mechanical hook-ups that are so easy to attach. We recently added a rock guard(Protect-A-Tow) to protect the new paint on the TJ (this added another minute or so) to our hookup time. For us the ready brake system is very simple and the one to have!

Not like anyone is in a hurry, was just curious! ;-)..

I think I waste more time getting out and checking things as I'm hooking up and getting the arms locked... gotta get the wife involved in the process..
