Traveling with toad for the first time
I’m heading to Colorado in a few weeks and will be towing my jeep for the first time on an extended trip. What is the “protocol” when arriving at a RV park ? I travel alone and am curious as to how to handle unhooking the toad, where it should be done and what is the best way to go about it?
thanks

The bottom line:
Individual parks have individual and very specific, ever changing, dependant on flood and construction and vacancy rate, rules.
There is no normalcy.
If I tell you the norm is to remove the towed vehicle prior to park entry and you can't... You can't.
If I tell you to do it at your site and you can't...You can't.
The park manager will tell you when and how.
Maybe someone will post a link to the thread where someone here had a total conniption meltdown over a dolly, her rights, her failure to read specifics or even at all, her telling the park how they should treat her differently than the other 1,000 or so visitors that week, and her lack of personal accountability.
Whatever we tell you will have no bearing on the park managers opinion, decision, protocol, or mood.
Have a good trip.
We can help with an actual checklist for before, during the tow and unhooking, but we can't tell you Maggie Managers 'rule of the day for 30ft and longer rv's vs 28ft rv's' .

If we’re going into a pull-thru site, we will generally wait until we’re actually in the site before unhooking. If going into a back-in site, we generally park just inside the RV park and unhook at the same time we’re checking in.
As already mentioned, some parks will have a specific area for you to hook up and unhook, but they generally post signage directing you to where you need to go.

Once you get experienced in 'unhooking' quickly, you can simply do it in front of the site, since you'll be stopping past it to then back in anyway(or, if it's a pull thru site, no worries, don't even unhook!)...
until then, you might feel better doing it right after checkin, right where you are already parked, if no one is being held up behind you... then just drive you car to a close by spot to park it until you can walk back and retrieve it after you've parked the rig in the site.
a few parks have somewhat 'designated' un-hook parking areas, but most don't and it's just up to you as to 'where' you do it, unless someone gives you specific directions.

...generally, for purposes of being nice to neighbors, hooking and unhooking the tow vehicle near the office is best - one of the most aggravating situations is when a turbo-diesel truck, or diesel pusher motorhome, sits RUNNING, in their site, or even in the lane, for what seems like 'hours' while the owners 'do things'...
get as much 'done' and 'ready' before you ever crank up your RV... at least that's the 'nice' way to do it.... : )

Depending on situation.
If we are at the park for more than one overnight I will generally unhook while the DW checks us in. I do this for pull thru or back in sites.
If just an overnight and we have a pull thru site I won't even unhook the TOAD.

If you're not in a pull-through site: I agree.
Otherwise; pull in, and set up as you normally would. Save the unhooking for last.

I have done as mentioned above: If pull through site unhook in the site (if at all when just overnight).
I'm only commenting because I've had more than one campground mention where to unhook upon checkin even though I didn't even ask.
One mention was "You might want to unhook where you're parked because the turn to get in the site is rather sharp"--it was a pull-through site. I did hook back up in the site before leaving, however.
The site in question:
(Yeah we use a dolly but I don't think the "how you tow a car" is really that relevant to the question at hand.)

I always ask the front desk just to be sure. Sometimes the path you are on can be tight and if you are flat towing and can’t back up if you get stuck it’s a pain. The road may normally be wide enough you just never know if there is someone at their site that is taking up some of the road.

Exactly the right thing to do.
You're at the desk, you're talking to someone who knows the intricacy.
I would never not ask the in charge individual at the individual park regarding the individual rv space.
