InvisiBrake Broken Bolt

Recently we had the InvisiBrake installed on the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Yesterday, as we were getting ready to go grab some grub I noticed half a broken bolt on the driver's side floor.

Here is what found

Broken bolt parts

and upon looking further I found the InvisiBrake pedal clamp loose and out of its installed location.

I contacted the installing dealer (Camping World) and sent them these pics and am waiting to hear back from them.

Bottom line, add bolt checking to the before, during and after ops checks for trip planning.

Luckily we were not towing the Jeep when this happened.

Update, I have an appointment for tomorrow morning to get this corrected. The RoadMaster regional rep is on site and he wants to be present to determine the cause and also to collect the broken bolt for analysis to determine if a different style or hardness bolt is required for the installation.

Problem corrected

Problem corrected. Both bolts were replaced with harder versions. We'll see what happens during my trip in a couple of weeks.

Good to hear they got you taken care of quickly. Hopefully the harder bolts do the trick, keep an eye on it during your trip. Harder can also mean more brittle when it comes to metal. We've had our Invisibrake for going on two years now and it's been trouble free for 7,000+ miles. But we had ours installed at a company thats only business is hitches and accessories.

That is my thought as well. When I looked at the bolt it appeared to have a slight twist , and not the threads, at the break. I personally think it was the result of power tool foot pounds when manual tool inch pounds should have been used.

I watched today's replacement and it was done with a box end and Allen wrench. The tech didn't even use a full grunt of torque.

Lol... like the technical measure. Will have to use that.
Glad it got fixed... be checking bolts on my Wrangler’s Invisibrake this weekend.

We are getting ready for a trip into the North Carolina mountains in a couple weeks. Happy it happened here on the home front rather than on one of the valley descents.
