Jeep Compass as toad

Looking to (possibly) pull Jeep Compass as toad, but getting conflicting information from dealer. Owners manual says it's towable 4 down w/ manual tranny, but doesn't specify if the 4x4 is as well. Dealer says the FWD model is but the 4x4 isn't? Looking at a 2016 Compass and wondering if something has changed from past years. Anyone?

I looked it up in the DhingyGuide. It says nothing about the 4x4 (Sorry for earlier response)

The owners manual wins...
Typically a 4WD Jeep WITH a transfer case that can be set to NEUTRAL is flat tow capable...
My Wrangler's owners manual clearly says it can be flat towed - and how...

Some 4WD/AWD systems don't have the capability to place the transfer case in Neutral - which typically causes an issue for flat towing with an automatic transmission.

I'd be surprised to see a Jeep 2WD automatic transmission be flat towable...
But again - the owners manual wins.

According to Motorhome Magazine's 2016 Guide to Dingy Towing:

"Only 4x4 models with 2-Speed Power Transfer Unit may be towed. The Power Transfer Unit must be shifted into NEUTRAL and the transmission must be in PARK."

This looks like a change from the 2015 Compass again according to the 2015 Guide to Dingy Towing by Motorhome magazine.

I tow a 2015 Jeep Patriot which is mechanically identical to a Jeep Compass.

It is a 5sp 4x4 or more accurately, all wheel drive. The Jeep/Compass is a front wheel drive car that can transfer up to 50% of the torque to the rear wheels.

Here's an except from the Patriot Owner's Manual:

There are no restrictions on flat towing a manual transmission Patriot either 2wd or 4wd.
