New Ford Maverick Hybrid Truck

I found out today that the new Ford Maverick Truck (Hybrid model only) is TOAD approved. It has a special neutral you can set and allow it to be towed on all 4 wheels. Has anyone bought one? They seem relatively low priced.

“They seem relatively low priced”

As compared to what?
Every new vehicle sold is currently at sticker price or above.
And most are being sold with 7-10 year loans. (go figure…)

That said…thanks for the info abt the hybrid Maverick truck. Good to know for future reference.
The base plate will probably be the biggest challenge, finding one if it is even available.

Low priced meaning a decent truck for like $20-25k if you don't need all the fancy features. Even none stock still comes with nice screen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with power windows, etc. Obviously this is going to be a FWD truck with a hybrid motor, you can upgrade to AWD with Ecoboost but that will be a little more and then you can't tow it.

This is one in my area for $22k. https://shop.ford.com/inventory/mave...TW8E91NRA36742

If you are close to one of the baseplate manufacturers they sometimes will make a baseplate for free using your vehicle as a test model. That would mean losing the vehicle for a bit while they develop the baseplate.

But that linked truck is not a hybrid and it has the 2 liter ecoboost engine; so not flat towable?

Not only not flat towable but gone as well.

Maverick's are incredibly popular and thus difficult to find (and many dealers adding ADM on them...even though the are not that expensive).

Here is a hint: They use the same hybrid system as the Escape and thus the Escape hybrid is also flat towable (and more readily available...also more expensive, however). The Escape is also available in a plugin hybrid which you can charge up at the campground. Thus for a short distance you don't have to pay for gas (will charge faster if you get a 50amp site).

Got to see Maverick for first time in person at Houston Rodeo where Ford has large exhibit. Both units I saw were AWD with EcoBoost, and I didn’t see a hybrid (didn’t have much time to look for one).

I liked what I saw briefly in that it reminded me of a 4-cylinder Ranger XLT I purchased a long time ago, except Maverick is modern and crew cab. Size was similar and rear seat more spacious than I would have expected. Truck bed is pretty small though even compared to my old Ranger’s 6-footer.

I wanted to see the hybrid powertrain because it “may” be used on upcoming North American Transit Connect replacement which is reported to be built at same Maverick factory. If new van ends up as large as Maverick, it could make an interesting little camper and or toad.

Roadmaster has finished with their prototypes hopefully baseplates will be ready this month.

BlueOx was looking for volunteers in Jan.

That would certainly be cool.

I have a 2018 Ford Fusion Energi which is also the same. So yes I with the Maverick had a PHEV version. I don't really want an escape TOAD as I like having the truck bed to maybe put some bike mounts in to haul bikes since I can't use the hitch on my RV if using it with a TOAD. Of course there is a hitch on the Maverick as well to put a bike rack and put other things in the bed.

I bought one of the very first Escapes in 2001 when we had our first child. Was an excellent car until we had more kids and upgraded to an Expedition.

We bought a 2021 Escape titanium hybrid in November of 2021. We ordered it with a towing package so I can slip our bike rack in the receiver. There are quite a few escapes on the lot but no hybrids. It charges the batteries when braking so no need for a plug in. Great gas mileage too. 38mpg on town.

Ford stopped taking 2022 orders a couple of months ago.
They'll start taking 2023 orders in August

We ordered a hybrid on Sept 1 and expect delivery in late May, email from Ford says they'll build it mid April
