Picked up a Kia Soul to tow, which trailer?

I traded my Kia Optima in for a new Soul with the thought of it being a more practical vehicle to tow. I was torn between the manual and automatic transmission. But since this will be my every daily driver too, I went with the automatic because of the added options that could be had with the automatic. So that means trailer tow.

What are the trailer recommendations and how much am I looking at to buy?

Thanks for you thoughts in advance.

We have the same car (Optima) and I just purchased an Acme Ez tow dolly. Should work better with the Soul than the Optima, less weight. Right now I am at the Kia dealer looking at Soul's. Can't get together on $$$$. Will tow the Optima.

As a fellow Virginian there are a couple of things to consider before purchasing.

1. Registration
2. Safety Inspection
3. Personal Property Taxes

Depending on the size a trailer may require all three. It will require registration and PPT.

A tow dolly requires none of the above.

Also, keep in mind if you decide to purchase a dolly, brakes are required if you decide to tow in Canada. A dolly with surge brakes does not require a brake controller installed in the coach.

Food for thought.

I also have the Acme tow dolly. So far we've pulled our 2014 Escape with it for about 1000 miles without issue. Don't even know it's back there.

You may find a dolly to be more attractive as it will weigh a lot less than a trailer.

You may find you will exceed the towing capacity of your motorhome with a trailer.

Oops, sorry - just read your correction to dolly.

LOVE the Kia Souls!

That would be my choice when we start seriously shopping for a dingy!

I use a Master Tow 80 THDSB.

My dolly retailed for 1200.00 including spare tire and wheel (14 inch 6 ply) and surge brakes. The biggest factors in my decision were surge brakes (no need for brake controller) and the rotating bed/table (makes cornering easier) and the 80 inch bed (wide enough to tow most any front wheel drive).

The best parts were I bought it at a local RV dealer (in Ashland) and it was assembled.

My dolly arrived and I just traded the Optima for a Soul. Cannot wait to try out this combo. But alas, it is at the dealer (again) to finish the earlier warranty work.

Congrats! I just dropped our coach off for work. I still need to buy a dolly.

The Acme dolly and the Soul made for a great combo. Could not even tell it was backther. Thank goodness for the backup camera. Now I need to drop my hitch so the dolly is closer to level. This setup works great.
