Welcome to the forum!
There have been several threads about towing jeeps here on the forum, try using the search tab. If you don't get the kind of photos you are asking for, check out etrailer.com and also look for some vids on you tube.
Good luck!

I may be wrong, but I believe "Mr. Sunshine" was being helpful. I am getting my 24.1 tomorrow and my new "toad" on Thursday. I have been using the search for Toads, towing behind my Vegas, flat towing a Jeep .... type searched for about 2 weeks and have gotten a LOT of info. If you follow his suggestion, you will get a lot of info.

2016 jeep jk. Roadmaster base plate ready brute elite towbar/brake system
Your JL may require some additional work to flat tow. When they first came out there was some discussions on other forums that they have electronic hydraulic brake system which is new to the JL. So they ditional work may be needed to prevent the death wobble that the Cherokees were getting. So do your research I don't know what the outcome was cuz I haven't been following it on those threads

That death wobble on the KL (Cherokee) was (jeep fixed it for 2019) caused by the electric steering (fixed in 2015 with a wiring harness).
Does the JL have electric steering?
Check your jeep forum if you're not SURE.

on irv2.com there a lot of talk about towing problems and death wobble with the jl. I stopped reading that thread so dont know what the outcome was. The big debate was did the jl have the same steering as the cherokee
And youre right it needs to be properly researched. Just glad my jk tows great

Know this is probably a little off topic as I don't have a Jeep, but when we first hooked up our Honda Fit (manual) with the Blue Ox to our Thor Four winds 31W it looked so complicated so I took photos to make sure when I had to do it for the first time unaided, I wouldn't screw up! Since that first time we have gotten so used to it it is a 5 minute job. The only extra thing we have to do is to make sure the ignition is on in accessory mode to keep the steering unlocked. And it doesn't even register the mileage!

Toad protection
We've towed our "05 Suzuki Grand Vitara over 90,000 miles through all the lower 48 without any problems. The GV was a dolled-up luxury version of a Jeep made in Japan that's not available since 2013. (Too bad, I'd buy a new one if I could) In the first few years we had it we made numerous "off the beaten path" trips so I made a Toad Screen to protect it from road debris. Here's some pics of it that also show our hookup.
As important as your tow bar is, I recommend you also put a lot of thought into your auxiliary braking system.

My first response on the Forum. We have had a dinghy tow vehicle and we've had a four down tow vehicle. We towed the car dinghy tow for quite a while. It is very difficult when you get older to wheel that dinghy out there to the back of the motor home. Are our dinghy towed was built by Ace and it weighed 250 to 300 lb. It was very good and very secure. The problem with dinghy tow is it so difficult to set up and drive on and strap down and then you have to check it see if it had come loose so you have to do that periodically and then we had the store the ramps. This process would take anywhere from 25 to 35 minutes. And in the rain it's just an everliving nightmare to hook your car up. Let's move on to four down Towing. We now have tow our Jeep JL 4 down what's the transmission in neutral and the transfer box in neutral. It takes about 10 or 15 minutes with no stress to hook up Jeep up to the motorhome. When you tow 4 down the toad has to have its own braking system, so you have to install a self braking system. The one we installed you don't have to do anything with a car once it's installed, you don't have to position a brake mechanism to push on the brake and take it out each time to store the mechanism . All we do now to activate our braking system is the flip one switch to on, and hook up the emergency Breakaway cable and that's it'. lt's always installed in the car doesn't interfere with the car it's just wonderful. So my advice to you would be to investigate Towing 4 down much simpler much easier you don't have to store anything there's so many reasons anyway enjoy the Jeep, Jeeps are wonderful

Been away for a little while
Thank you very much for the pics and especially the info of your setups
I'm leaning toward the
Demco Base Plate - seems beefier and i like that for a jeep that will be going offroad
SMI Stay In Play DUO braking system, i like the permenant installation and flip a switch to turn on.
i see a few of you have this, are you supper happy with it??
Haven't figured out the Tow Bar yet...
Thoughts on my thoughts,
Thank you, IrnBear

Stay N Play
We love our "stay N play". It works great and so simple to use and nothing to take out and store. We tow 4 down, takes 10 or 15 minutes to hook up and we are on our way.
Enjoy the jeep and welcome to the form
