Pine Mountain Hillclimb

Thought I would share a photo of my race tow setup from a couple of weeks ago. FWIW, I wasn't last and put the car back on the trailer w/o any damage. A win/ win for a hillclimb! 24' Hallmark, Four Winds 28Z.

Beautiful area at Pine Mountain. I will be back to visit, traveled through the Cumberland Gap to get there and I will say that Highway 63 to the Gap from I-75 was absolutely gorgeous.

Cheers

Nice. Track days are the best. Curious- what’s the laden weight on that trailer + car and how’s the rig perform on hills? That seems like quite a beast of a trailer- you must be kissing that 8k tow spec, no?

The car is a '72 Datsun 240Z normally used for road racing with SCCA. The load on the MH is not bad. It actually rode better with the extra weight. I guesstimated I'm at about 6.5k# . Car weighs 2300# and I am loaded light. The MH pulled it, and stopped it well. You could tell it was there, but really did well.

Well, we're both in Alabama now and you are back in mine and wife's old stomping ground. We're both originally from Middlesboro, KY and at one time we have lived in Cumberland Gap. Still remember before the tunnel. Crossing that mountain in snow was hell!!!! But in summer we dragged raced up the KY side!!!!
Just where do they have hill climbs up there? Enjoy, it is a beautiful area. Thx, Dennis.

When I saw "Hillclimb": I was waiting for the parts to stop cartwheeling down the hillside...

This was in the state park. Budman, I should be in your area the week before labor day at Barber Motorsports Park. If I am not racing, I will still be the flag chief for the club race that weekend.

And Bob, not that kind of hillclimb, this one is on paved roads! LoL

Well the road up to the lodge is an effort in itself. I would guess it is 9ft center line road at best. I've gone up a few times in 35 ft Hurricane pulling motorcycle trailer. U pray on the way up or down you don't meet delivery truck. They at least send short tucks and trailers but if you meet in curve you're both over center line. Both brake quickly!!!! Makes ur butt pucker!!!! Enjoy Dennis.

Pineville, KY is not too far from this place. If that thing is streetable, you'll get more than a few kicks on this road.

Make the right onto 19E and come back down 221- also a lot of fun.

Tom Johnson Campground is on Rt70 and a short drive to Buck Creek Rd (aka Rt 80). Take 70 to 221 to 80 and have a blast! If you're lucky, you may be able to hook up with one of the clubs that frequent the road and make some like-minded friends.

You may also enjoy the town or Marion if you extend your stay a few days. It's a nice place and I do.
