Upgraded toad

Planning to update our toad soon. Looking at the Toyota Tundra. Anyone have experience or knowledge on pros or cons?

Tundra is not listed in the Dinghy towing guide so you may not be able to flat tow it.

I don't think Toyota endorse anything for flat towing anymore. Not that it can't be done but the onus is on you.

They list the Corolla but that is all.

Tundra may be like some of the Jeeps and has a transfer case that cannot be shifted into Neutral for towing.

Who lists the Corolla?

Why not just put it on a trailer?

Why buy a truck and a trailer when you can buy a truck that can be flat towed? From the original post the OP doesn't have the Tundra yet.

That would be a better choice; if that's what the O.P. wants to do.

Yep, that was the last towable Toyota, and only for the manual transmission. In 2020 there are none.

Thanks for all the info. Sounds like I need to rethink the Tundra.

How about a Jeep that has a transfer case tucked under it's skirts? Shift those babies into neutral, and you can drag them all the way to infinity!

New Ford Ranger works as well. A comparable replacement for the Tundra. Doesn't require battery disconnect, either, at least from what I've read.

On the Jeep thing all models of Jeeps are not 4 down towable. Renegades and the Compass are a no tow. Cherokees without a two speed transfer case are a no tow, Grand Cherokees must be equipped with a Quadra Trac II or Quadra Drive II to be a flat towable. All the Wranglers are flat towable as is the new Jeep Gladiator pick up. If you are looking for a truck the Gladiator IMHO would be my 1st choice but I am biased. We have owned 3 Liberties, a Commander and now a 2019 Cherokee Trailhawk. We were going to tow the Commander but it was ten years old, had a Hemi that passed everything but a gas pump and weighed in at well over 5000 lbs. It was time for an upgrade so we went with a Cherokee, a bit smaller and lighter than a Grand Cherokee at 4625 lbs on its base package. The Cherokee with the Trailhawk package includes complete underbody skid plates and scales in at 4200 lbs. The Cherokee is our toad and doubles as my wife's daily driver. WE are happy with the Cherokee, a very capable small SUV for the little off road (think Forest service roads) the DW and I do, but when that Gladiator came out (drools) I am thinking we may need another upgrade..... (Dirty Look from DW) A guy can wish, right?

You cannot dinghy tow a Toyota Tundra without disconnecting the driveshafts . I have one and am changing it to a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 or you can get a 4x4 ford ram or Chevy.

Not familiar with the drive shaft disconnect. Leaning towards a Chevy.
