Towing my Jeep

Does anyone tow a Jeep Wrangler 2015 or later , with a 31w class c Fourwinds, and if so do you have to drop or raise the receiver coming out of the coach. The reason I ask is I need to orde a Protect-A-Tow setup, and I haven’t installed my baseplate yet. So I’m unsure at this point if I need the longer one or if the standard will do.

I think the standard is 6". If you have a difference between the tow and the towed greater than 6", buy a riser.

I believe 3" is the most offset you want.I just hooked up my 2014 mini cooper to my 2015 24.1 Vegas and it tows great.

Make them as level as you possibly can: no fooling!
If they're not the same height: hard braking will make the toad either try to lift the rear of your rig into the air; while it tries to submarine under you...
Or it'll try to climb up over the tow-bar, and climb in through a back window!
(Depending on whether the toad is higher, or lower: than your rig.)

I plan on making the two as level as possible, I thought Jeep is stock/standard and the Four Winds is stock/standard so maybe some one had an identical setup and I’d know if I needed a riser or not. It’s my understanding that a riser adds length to the towbar. So I’m going to add the baseplate and determine what’s needed prior to purchasing a Protect-a -tow.(standard or longer).

How much length does a riser add overall?

Towing my Jeep

Hitchsource is where I bought my towing system, hoping my braking system will prevent overriding or underriding the towbar, at least to some degree, in addition to being level

I’m getting a 24.1 2016 Vegas and looking at getting a Mini Cooper to toe. Can you tell me how your set up is going ?

Well, I didn’t get mini to tow. Got a 2019 Jeep Trailhawk, then traded my BMW X3 for a new Mini Cooper S convertible. Blue Ox base plate and hitch, SMI Duo Stay and Play breaking system. All hooked up and ready for the road.

I have a 6" riser on my setup; adds 10" in length.

Edit: Should add that the tow bar (Demco) can be switched to raise or lower the height; mine is set to lower, so total rise from the coach to the toad is ~8 1/4".
