Stay n Play Braking System

There is a Stay n Play Duo brake system by Demco and another called Stay n Play Duo with coachlink monitor for about 300 dollars more.....1150 vs 1375 on e trailer.

Anyone with experience with this system with or without the monitor?

We use the Demco Stay n Play system with the Coachlink monitor. The system is great, a flick of a switch in the Toad and it is on. The monitor, while not necessary is useful as it confirms when the toad brakes are applied. We like our system - the biggest disadvantage is that it is not portable between toads. So, make sure you have the toad you want before installing.

We used the stay in play and love it. SO easy to use. I self installed and later moved it to a different towed car. You can add the Coachlink monitor later if you want it. I did but wouldn’t do it again as I can tell if the towed car brakes are activated by feel. The rig actually stops better with the towed car helping. It’s a terrific system, always ready to go.

I had the Demco Stay and Play system installed on our 2014 Ford Flex. I do not have the monitor. It is a great system and very easy to use. So far we have towed our car to Utah and back to California several times with no issues. I also had the Blue Ox tow bar and base plate installed to work with the system. I was looking at a portable braking system but after researching my options, I went with the Demco Stay and Play. We plan on keeping our towed vehicle and not changing cars anytime soon.

We have the Stay and Play Duo with the Monitor. While we can tell when the TOAD brakes, having the monitor also verifies when the TOAD brakes start to engage. Just makes a little more comforting to know everything is working. Had some issues during install (installer faux pas) but once sorted, it's been working great. Pulled from Tx to Va and back during the Christmas cold, no problems.

Another happy Stay N Play customer here. Flip the switch "on", plug the monitor into a cigarette lighter and off you go. I like the monitor as it will light up and show you that the toad brakes are engaged, after about 10 seconds a warning beep sounds for an audible notification. I tend to be easy on brakes using the transmission for slowing whenever possible and pump the brakes intermittently so the beep rarely sounds. I'm certain you can turn it off but it makes you practice good braking habits...

If you just stand on your brake pedal all the time you will wear your Toad brakes sooner as well. In my opinion if you can feel your toad tugging on your 20,000lb coach you might be being hard on you toad brakes.

As others mention, the drawback is that there can be time and expense moving it to a different toad.

I am a very happy customer of the stay and play system.
When mine was installed, we just used one of the empty lines that run through the cable that hooks up your RV to the towed. Then installed a small red light down low to left on the dash. When I break, I can see the light out of my left lower peripheral vision.
No need in spending $300.00.
I used break buddy for 20yrs. I will never go back. Stay & Play best thing I ever added to our rigs.

There are 2 pin connections on rear of the ACE. See photos.

I called Thor and they said that the ACE is not pre wired for a charge line to the vehicle to keep the battery charged.

Does anyone know how this charge line is installed?

If your dealer doesn’t know find a competent dealer to do the install. Hot lead off the 12 VDC pin in the 7 pin connector.

I just looked on the internet and it shows that the #4 pin (in the round 7 pin connector)is the aux hot line that should provide a charge to your towed vehicle.

I also have the Demco system-no monitor. As paulwadley mentioned, I can also easily feel when the brakes engage. I have a Vegas 24.1 towing a 2 door Wrangler. After a year, I am very happy with the Demco system.

If a qualified installer doesn't know how to wire a simple charge line from the 7-pin connector, I'd be VERY leery of trusting them to do my flat towing install.

I am sure the Dealer does know...they are a Newmar Dealer with excellent credentials.

Their quote includes wiring for the charge line.

I was just trying to educate myself on the topic.

Job done and did our first tow. Only issue is the Coachlink brake signal monitor on dash stopped working after we left. Went back and it was working again and then off again down the road. We have 12v power in receptacle but no power light on the monitor. Back to dealer sometime this week to check out. Also, Thor Tech Support was wrong, the ACE was pre-wired to set up the surge line.

Surge line? You mean charge line?

If the Coachlink brake signal monitor is powered by an OEM power receptacle in the TOAD, some vehicles turn those off after a specific time-out period.

Yup....charge line.

As I understand it there is a transmitter hard wired under the dash in the Jeep and signal is wireless by design.

No 12v hook up in Jeep like a portable system may have.

Next to your left foot on the side wall in the Jeep there is a controller with an on off switch and there is a sensitivity knob that can adjust the pressure to actuate the brake up or down. The tech said we may have to tinker with it to find the sweet spot but that in my mind doesn't fix the issue with the Coachlink not lighting up when braking.
