I decided using a car dolly best instead of 4 down because will be using multiple vehicles. 1st vehicle is 2016 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 with automatic trans. Believe be ok if trans and transfer case shifted into neutral, correct? 2nd vehicle 2010 Smart car with automatic I believe ok if shift into neutral, correct. Both vehicles need battery disconnected as need leave key in ignition. How did you all do that?

Thanks for all your help.

Don't ask us: look in your vehicles' owners' manuals under Recreational Towing.

For instance, I believe your Jeep's transmission will remain in Park but the transfer case will have to be in neutral.

I don’t think you can tow a Jeep on a dolly unless you disconnect drive shaft

Yep, true. I was thinking flat towing.

Sorry dumb of me to think some Thor owners would be dolly towing these 2 types of vehicles and would know. I will know not to ask again.

Smart car owners manual only talks about flat towing not using dolly. Not sure why it would make a difference though. I did read someplace their concern with a dolly is suspension clearance as these are really low. I don't know if that is for loading or after it is on dolly. Clearance for getting on dolly can be fixed using blocks to raise Smart as you drive up. For those who might like to know. I will post how I got it done later when I do it.

Still working on how to do the Jeep.

For electrical battery I think for Smart pull IOD fuse will be easiest tell figure better way. The Jeep probably a cutoff switch on the battery. However if transmission can be left in park and transfer case in neutral the key can be removed no need for battery cut off switch.

Again my apologies for asking the question. Thanks.

If you shift the Jeep's transfer case into neutral: that stops all rotation before it has a chance to even get to the transmission...
(That's for "four-down" towing...

Even better: lockout hubs at each corner.

Further checking appears even with transfer case in neutral rotation of rear axle will try to rotate front differential. Consequently why towing 4 down is approved. If I want to use dolly will have disconnect rear drive shaft and reconnect when ready to use.

For Smart car appears only way to be sure not to cause damage is to load Smart car backwards rear wheels on dolly. Will have to lock steering wheel with seat belt would have to anyway no matter tow forward or rearward.

Now for both vehicles can leave them in park and remove the key so no need of battery disconnect.

Will have look further into towing Jeep 4 down as wife does not like idea of me connecting and disconnect drive shaft all the time. Currently Jeep front number replace with after market for wench and has taps for D rings. Perhaps they can be used for tow bar. Will look into that as well.

Again thanks for the help.
