Question towing with a dolly questions

Hi,

some of you might laugh but I really don't know. First time towing with my tow dolly - not 4 wheels down

- Towing a 2016 Ford Focus 2.0 Automatic FWD - do I put it in Park or Neutral ??

- reading the manual from Ford it says under "Recreational towing" that I have to disconnect the black ( negative ) cable from the battery while towing. Does this also apply to dolly towing or just if I tow 4 wheels down ?

Please - don't laugh

Not going to laugh: Valid question. Which dolly?

Typically you just put the car in park on the dolly (at least we do), turn the key to off and remove it. With the key out of the ignition there is no need to disconnect the battery as the car is "off".

The which dolly question comes up because depending on the dolly how you handle the steering is different (if you car has an ignition lock that locks the steering and/or if your dolly has a turn table or not can change what you have to do).

Thank you

I have a Master Tow Dolly - Model 80THD

The Focus has no steering locks. I put the seat belt through it, so it cannot move. If I understand correct, the dolly does have a turn table.

Did not disconnect the battery and removed the key from the ignition, put it in P - am I safe to go ? Thank you so much

I believe so. To verify you may want to check out the master tow documentation.

Towed with a Master Tow 80 for about 5 years. It has a rotating deck so steering must be locked or strapped. Battery does not need to be disconnected on a Ford when dolly towing. Does yours have brakes?
