Correction: All EV's have regenerative braking its a feature. Yes charging the battery provides resistance and thus the charging car would be more of a drag on the coach than simply towing in neutral.

The amount of regen can be adjusted, however, so it could be setup to minimally impact. That would all take effort, however, on the engineers to design a "being towed" mode into the cars. With EVs still being a relatively new beast I'm sure this hasn't been thought of yet.

New to motor homing... need some basics in towing a vehicle; motor home is a 2018 Thor Windsport 35M. The vehicles we currently have are 2012 GMC 1500 Sierra and a 2017 Honda Oddsey. Can the regular A type hitch be used where all 4 tires roll or do you have to use the tow dolly where the front tires don’t roll?

Most people prefer to tow a vehicle 4 wheels down rather than deal with a dolly.

All GM vehicle manuals talk about RV towing. Go to https://my.gm.com/learn to find manuals going back for many years.

Your Sierra is flat towable IF it's 4WD.

It’s not 4WD... so absolutely nothing we can do to make it towable? We just bought a motor home so can’t afford another vehicle!
Thank u so much for your reply.

Where can one find the “dinghy list”?

I don’t know if your Honda can be towed flat but that would be the best choice considering the weight if you can’t tow flat you can use a dolly. Even though a dolly is a little more work (I used one for years and had no problems) the initial investment is much less than a flat tow setup. It usually took me about 10 min to hook up on the dolly once I had a routine down. Storing a dolly is what most people object to, I never had a problem with that. At the campground I just left the dolly attached, never had a problem with that either. You can check Craigslist and sometimes find a good deal on a dolly.

We have a Jeep Patriot. The lighter weight tows great behind our gas coach. The price was also our consideration because it is only used as a toad. Three years old, 11000 miles driven and 19570 miles towed.

If you like the idea of towing a Jeep:

http://www.thorforums.com/forums/att...1&d=1510702311

This one is probably NOT the best choice...

But it IS pretty cool-looking!

Third gives us a 4 wheel drive for the back country.

Not many choices out there if you want to stick with Auto tranny.
Lots of choices for Automatic vehicles. Search year such as 2017 Dinghy Vehicles.

Try passing a Tesla model S in Ludicrous mode.

There FIFY.

(FYI There is no "beast" mode on a Model S.)

Now I see that they are working on a new Roadster:

Maximum "Plaid" mode! LOL 1.9s handily beats a Model S.

Typically Tesla Superchargers are: 20 minutes to 50%, 40 minutes to 80% and 75 minutes to 100%. Sure slower than a gas pump (unless you're filling a motorhome LOL) but after 200+ miles you have to walk around anyway.

Not to say it isn't a good idea to have one; but don't confuse "should" with "shall".
If you RV in Canada, aux braking system is required. Also in most US Ststes.

I'm aware of "Plaid..."
This movie happens to be "Sonny Boy's" all-time favorite!
