The antenna should be grounded through the internal circuitry of the radio itself.

Not sure about your radio or the antenna plug, but have you tried the antenna from the dock and play home kit? ...

I did the same on my Challenger. Put the antenna as far forward as possible on the middle of the dash and it works fine.
