I too struggled with what batteries would fit...
I too struggled with what batteries would fit under that step! Not many good capacity deep cycle options for that space. FWIW... I had pretty much convinced myself that the only option was lithium...

They get mentioned a lot because they're CHEAP! Don't get me wrong they're ok and I just got 2 6V from Costco because ... ding, ding, ding... they're cheap and have a damn good chance to last me past...
