The sat reciever and dish need a direct run with no splitters in between. Barrel connectors are OK if you need to extend the coax. That's why I ran mine from the reciever to one of the bays.

The last trip we made we were surrounded by trees and if we had a roof mounted dish we would never found a signal. I have the Wineguard Pathway X2 and with some trial and error we had full HD...
