Check your operators manual. My Onan says the generator should NEVER be started while connected to shore power; and to do so could cause serious damage to the generator and/or electrical components.

My Onan manual says the same thing-I run the A/C, all three TVs, maybe the water heater and/or fridge. Sometimes I will make a pot of coffee, too.
