just an update...Pep Boys came thru & my Porter Cable 1.5 gal compressor is now safely home.

I tried it out last night and it's definitely a keeper. Fairly light (20 lbs), but compact & powerful.

It was even colder last night (about 12 degrees), but I was able to fill up the remaining tires pretty quickly.

One thing I'd recommend if you go this route is to go ahead and get an extended tire chuck. The silly female adapter that comes with it connects directly onto the hose, meaning it makes it harder than needed to get it on & keep it on the valve.

I picked up an extended tire chuck from Lowes for $6. Works much nicer now.
