For outdoor storage... whether Michigan snow/ice or Florida sun - I store with slides in/awning in...
My opinion = the weight of snow/ice, wind, or sun impact on slide toppers and awnings just isn't worth leaving them out if I'm not using the rig.

If you are stored indoors - really doesn't matter then...

I can get to all but a couple of cabinets/drawers with slides in - we don't keep anything in those that we might need to get to between trips.
Of course could always open the slides if really needed.
