If you have a PC and are sending the files from there you can use a program like Faststone Image Viewer to remove the metadata and manually rotate it to the proper orientation (Not affiliated with them, just a user).

How to prepare an image with Faststone:

1. Browse to the image file and click on it
2. On the menu click on Tools and then "Remove JPEG Metadata" (Check the "remove...." checkbox and click on apply)
3. Look at the thumbnail of the image after step 2--If it is sideways then click on Tools, then JPEG lossless rotate and then left or right depending on what angle you want the image to be. (If you can't tell from the thumbnail double click on the image to view it)
