Just my rather inexpert opinion here...
Leaving them open sure should help with airflow around the engine and cooling system...
..But at the expense of noise and road grime!
So... pick your poison!
If you decide to add some wheel wells to your rig: take note of the operating temperatures of the mechanical stuff...
