I don't calculate miles but rather time. I mapquest our route and see how far our next stop would be and plan our route that way. Six hours is about my comfort level. We just came back from a 2500 mile trip six hours at a time. We usually arrive at our campsite around 2pm which gives plenty of time to setup and relax. We'll stay between 2 and four days and then off again.We use the Garmin 770 lmts and it hasn't failed us yet.
