I used 3/4 plywood as well. I have kids age 3 and 5, so definitely needed to cover stairs
It turns out, you can cut it in one piece and its almost the same exact size as the floor space under the dinette. At least in our ace 30.2.
We only pull ours out when we will be inside for a while or overnight. But, I can raise it up vertically next to the sofa and because of where the hand rail is, it keeps it in place against the sofa.
