Yes, indeed, I did check for damp and there was some. Luckily, not soaking and it dried out in the sun after an hour. I used a sealant around the fitting before screwing it back, the original screws really were very rusty and were hard to remove from the fitting, I'd advise any one to check and replace the screws with ss' steel ones. I did the whole back end including the camera mount and the slide topper bracket screws, looks much better too.
