I do have 2 12v in the stairs and one in the truck. I do not have an inverter. Yes I do know the generator will give me juice but not while I am driving.
Here is what I am trying to do: The kidos want to play xbox on our 12 hour cruises. I'm thinking I can just run a simple inverter from the cigarette lighter in the cab to run the xbox and small LCD that we can put in the dinette. Maybe next year I will look into wiring an inverter off the store batteries but doesnt seem worth the hassle if its just for when I am driving Any of you doing something similar with your xbox/PS

I went a step further. Goal very similar but I wanted TV and Direct TV Control Box to run from battery while driving. Started by removing TV, used a 3 foot swivel extension cord from coach wired outlet. This allows easy access to power for TV. Then as you stated using a 40 watt cigarette inverter, I ran a 12 foot extension cord up to TV plug. This allows me to easily change from coach or house power.
What I have not overcome is how to hide the wires without drilling any holes. Currently just using those removable hooks.
BTW we have In Motion Set up for Direct TV. Insanely expensive but mandatory in our case.
Bottom line, what you want to do will work, just be sure you buy a good inverter.
