Greetings from Long Island, New York. Having spent our married life and raising three daughters on "The Island", Irene and I are finally ready to retire and see a bit of this great country of ours.

Early on, when the girls were small, we did some camping, first in tents, then graduating to a second hand pop-up. Boy, were we living high! Like so many others, camping afforded us an inexpensive means of travel and lodging that gave us the opportunity to explore areas of New York, Pennsylvania and Maine that we otherwise might have missed. It was great family time.

Living on Long Island close to the bays and the ocean, we eventually met friends involved in boating and camping gave way to the boating life. Starting out with a small runabout, over the years we worked our way up to a 34' cruiser, which we have enjoyed for the last 16 years.

So, now that retirement is upon us, we decided it's time to buy that RV that we thought of from time to time and earlier this year purchased our 2016 ACE 30.2.
Although our maiden voyage and shake-down trip was a local weekend one, we did a trip to Virginia in August, where we met up with close friends from North Carolina, who also have a class A. We had a great time and the RV performed
well. The only negative part of the trip was (you guessed it!) getting off and on Long Island. Metro New York=Traffic Nightmare. Consider yourself fortunate if you've never experienced it.

As for the title of this post (Southbound), We have long considered moving down south once we retire. Then, when we visited our previously mentioned friends in North Carolina, who had moved there from Long Island, that desire only grew. What clinched the deal was our youngest daughter taking advantage of an opportunity to move to the Charlotte, NC area with her job.

Can't wait for our first RV trip from our new home base down south,

Jerry
