The reason you don't want to do that is there may possibly be other connections to the battery that
don't go through that relay. Putting the disconnect at the battery, however a pain that it is, ensures that you're completely disconnecting everything from the battery.
You could always use the marine type switch somewhere and just wire it to the battery--that way the hassle is only done once as you run that wire.
