Yeah but since he has 6 volts he needs two good ones to make the 12v system and the old one will have more resistance (I think) and cause problems with charging charging and discharging unevenly.
Kinda like tires... they say to at least replace in pairs.... sure you could do one tire but in the long run TWO is much better for proper handling etc.
Even if I had two 12v I think I would replace both at the same time to be safe (Unless they were only like 6 mo old then I would not worry about it).
